PACE's are like textbooks split into 12 booklets. Students will receive their PACE's in each subject and will work in them independently. The PACE's explain and give thorough instructions on how to work out problems. The supervisors are available if the student needs more one-on-one help.
HOMEWORK SLIP
Homework Slips are assigned only if the student has not finished their daily goals and if they have to study for a Test or Self Test. Note-taking has also been an addition to homework. The homework slip must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to the school the next day. If a student does not finish their homework, the parent can either not sign the slip or sign it and write a note if the student has a specific excuse on why they could not finish,
CONGRATULATION SLIP
Congratulations Slips are given at the end of the day to the students who pass their tests. The students also get to see what they missed on their tests. If a student makes a 100% on their test, they earn a "busy-bee" to add to our 100's Board. After the students collectively earn 100 -100%'s, a party will be thrown to celebrate!
A.C.E. PRIVILEGE
A.C.E. Privilege is a title a student can earn by going above and beyond their normal goals. The students can memorize Scripture, write reports, and do extra work to obtain privilege. The benefits vary between each kind of privilege, but include things like, getting up without being told or extended break times.
star chart
Star Charts are used to give a good visual for both the parents and the students on where they are academically-whether they are behind or ahead. It is split up into four quarters equaling a full school year. A student who gains a star every third, sixth, and ninth week of each quarter in every subject will achieve academic balance.
DEMERIT SLIP
Demerit Slips are given when a student disobeys the rules of Holden Beach Christian Academy. All of the rules are listed and explained in our handbook. (CURRICULUM->PROGRESS REPORTS->MORE INFORMATION). The demerit slip should be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to the school the next day. We ask the parents to be responsible for their punishment at home. If a student continues to disobey and break the rules of the school, they may be expelled.
INITIAL SHEET
Initials Sheets are given to each student. When a student does something to help a supervisor or goes beyond what is expected of him, they get initials. The students can save their initial sheets and use them to buy things in our merit store. This teaches the students to work, earn, and save.
goal card
Goal Cards are used to instill each student with the habit of setting daily goals. To stay on track, a student can look at the number of pages in each PACE to determine how many pages they are to do daily. The number of pages may vary in each subject.. After a student is finished with a goal, they are to cross it out. The students cannot change their goals unless authorized by the supervisors.
FLAGS
Each student will receive an American Flag and a Christian Flag. The students use them to signal different functions. The American Flag is raised when a student needs help from a supervisor or has a question. The Christian Flag is used when a student needs to check their PACE work.
NOTE-TAKING
Throughout the PACE's, there are three Checkups--which are equivalent to a quiz. At the end of each PACE, there is a Self Test--which is equivalent to a pre-test. The students are to take notes on both the Checkups and Self Test. Then they are to turn in their PACE and study their notes in order to test the next day.
